Web Developer, Father and Garden Geek
I'm Matt, and I've been making interesting things for exciting people since 2012. In 2024 I became a dad for the first time, and took a break in my career to explore this whole new part of my life.
Now in 2025, I'm excited to get back into two things: building great new things in PHP, Python and JavaScript, and getting back out into my no-dig vegetable garden and sharing it with the world.

I got my first computer when I was 7 and was instantly hooked. After messing about with computers and electronics for most of my childhood, in 2010 I decided I wanted to make computers my career. I started learning PHP and other web technologies in the evenings while I worked at Disney. In 2012 I started my first web developer role at Outlandish, and digital agency based in London.
At Outlandish I joined a small team building websites for a variety of different clients. I learnt how to collaborate on web projects, using Git to manage code changes, and Youtrack to manage tasks and sprints. As a small development agency, I had many opportunities to work on the many varied parts of project work: from requirement gathering meetings with clients, to running in-person user testing with members of the public; from designing complicated database structures, to provisioning cloud servers for a deployment.
